Skin has different needs than your hair. Seems fairly obvious, but it’s all part of the body, and so many of us have used or seen an “all-in-one” wash. A body wash, a shampoo, a conditioner, all-in-one. (Which, we ourselves are working on an option for at least a 2-in-1). But, that isn't always the best thing for your skin, an all-in-one has to encompass "everything" so its typically an emulsified bodywash. Meaning, its so broad to cover "all in one" there's nothing specifically targeted except for the cleaning itself. Typically it's just a bodywash and that's really it.
You can throw just plain ol’ water on yourself and call it an all-in-one. Water by itself, in fact, cleans. But obviously, just water doesn’t get “everything,” nor is it enough (unless you stand there for awhile, a very long, while), to get off the build-up of oil’s, dirt and grime.
We here at Florida Man Soap, separate our skin care and hair care (and our face care etc as well), because they each have different needs. The hair requires a more neutral Ph. Whereas the rest of your body and skin isn’t as susceptible to a higher Ph and therefore isn't necessary to control the Ph in soap bar's or bodywash.
Our soap bar’s maintain their Ph once created, and we don’t need to adjust the Ph like we need to with a shampoo or conditioner.
We formulate our soap bars and our body wash with skin nourishing ingredients, but we also like to cater to each specific area of the body.
Your skin needs unique care, otherwise, you may be damaging the surface level of your skin.... and overtime, it becomes scaly, or over-dry and too tight, ashy, itchy, irritation, etc, producing wrinkles and lines faster. Especially if you use bar soap, ie a higher Ph product on your face and hair.
By combining the functions of personal care products, one for body (body being neck down) and another for the hair, as an example, it requires changing the specific need for each one individually. We would need to ensure the body wash has a lower ph, but also nothing overly cleansing; we want to avoid damage to the hair.
When you purchase these products regularly, more than likely its been formulated to try and encompass the whole human body from head to toe. But might not be the best thing to use.
We are fully committed to ensuring the best washes for your skin, face and hair. Including the moisturizers for conditioning agents and lotions. There are reasons those all-in-ones are so cheap. BUT! We totally get it. And we ourselves, as i'm sure everyone, has used them at some point. So we are working on one to offer as well, but a more skin friendly, sulfate free option as a 2-in-1 for BW/Shampoo.
Conditioner requires a completely different formula. When you see a 3-in-1 (like a wash including conditioner), basically its just an extra moisturizing bodywash and the cleaning effect is reduced.
In our opinion, shampoo, soap and washes are meant to clean, meaning, remove the oils, dirt and grime. The conditioner and body lotions and face lotions etc are meant to revitalize after cleaning it out. Imagine trying to clean your hair to remove oils and dirt, with some oil. Not very effective and it can cause build up.
While the extra sulfates typically used in these million-in-one products cleans well enough, you aren't really getting any benefit and more than likely its damaging your hair, roots, face surface skin, and potentially overcleaning and the "conditioning" isn't doing anything at all.
We highly recommend purchasing products specifically created and formulated for your body (neck down), face, and hair. Look for products WITHOUT anything with the word "sulfate" in them as well. And at minimum if you want to take better care of your skin but are on a budget: If you do an "all in one" do that for a shampoo/BW combo, buy a conditioner separately, and at minimum either a face wash or a face lotion, we recommend at minimum a face lotion if you use your bodywash combo on the face.
Further, we would also recommend a body lotion. Plus, lotion, if its scented, acts as a longer lasting cologne. So you don't need to go super expensive. This goes for lotion, body cream, body butter, body balms, etc. We suggest however to be mindful of the ingredients because lotions are not saponified. Meaning, if you see Coconut oil or palm oil in a lotion (body, face, any lotion...), those are highly comedogenic. What does comedogenic mean? In a nutshell, it means they will clog pores and can contribute to a breakout of acne. So look for non-comedogenic ingredients in your lotion. Check out our blog here for non-comedogenic ingredients to look for in your lotion.
Here at Florida Man Soap, our lotions and face wash, they are formulated with high quality ingredients. Such as grapeseed in our body lotion, and we use Meadowfoam in our face lotion. All non-comedogenic (meaning they are good for sensitive skin and people prone to acne, and people who aren't prone, well you don't have to worry at all!). Of course, our products use high end, lux level ingredients, but we price at a fraction of the cost you'd find elsewhere. We achieve this by creating and formulating ourselves so there is no middle man.
